Default How do I apply Kontakt and sounds with Reaper?

Ok, I completely lost and overwhelmed. I tin can't figure out how to brand a audio using Reaper. I've been reading the manual but it'southward similar trying to read a language without knowing the alphabet. (I am not computer illiterate. I build my own machines, written scripts, etc., (For CAD software) simply have difficulty sympathize this.)

Dorsum in the 90'due south/2000'south I had a Studiologic 88-cardinal controller, a Roland audio module, and Breeze. I was able to assign the instruments to tracks, and play/record. I had hoped in learning Reaper I could download some instruments/sounds (Bypassing getting a sound module) assign the instruments to tracks, and trigger them from a controller, in this example testing with the born Virtual Midi Keyboard. I downloaded a gratis piano, a complimentary drumkit, and NI Kontakt and tit's gratis sounds. I installes Kontakt equally per instructions, and did the aforementioned for the Drumkit. (put the files in the Reaper plugins folder.) However, I tin can't effigy out how I brand whatsoever of this stuff available to Reaper to assign the sounds to tracks. I did the scan for plugins, VST , etc., as I understand it, simply to no avail. So here is what I want to do equally a beginner.

1. Download a few basic virtual instruments. (Which I think I've done?)

ii. Assign these instruments to tracks (Bass, Drums, Piano)

3. Input parts using the Virtual Midi Keyboard.

Any suggestions on how I can do this or, am I'chiliad wrong in what I idea I could exercise with Reaper?

Win 10-64bit laptop.
I've installed NI Kontakt

By "Reaper plugins" folder do you mean something like Plan Files/Reaper/Plugins? What instructions told you lot to practice that? 3rd political party plugins (like Kontakt) and other related content should not be installed there, it is meant for Reaper's own plugins, not 3rd party VST plugins and their files.

With Kontakt you have to setup internal routing as well as in Reaper, and yous accept to restart Kontakt at least twice during the process. There are enough of youtube vids on setting up Kontakt.

From the MTPDK instructions.
Copy both files:

"MT-PowerDrumKit.dll"

AND (!)

"MT-PowerDrumKit-Content.PDK"

into the VST Plugins folder of your DAW.

Example:
C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins\

Have you added that path to plugin paths in the Reaper preferences?

If that's where yous desire your plugins to go, then put them there, as long as Reaper knows that'southward your plugin path. Set that in Options>Preferences>Plugins>VST>Paths IIRC. U-He has some free synths that are very, very practiced, such as this one: https://u-he.com/products/zebralette/ but there are some others, besides.

Then, one time Reaper knows where to look for your VSTs, create a track; you tin can exercise this past just double clicking on an empty area in the track list. You tin can also practice this from the menu - you volition notice that many, many things in Reaper can exist washed in multiple means, and that can be disruptive at first, and so try to recall what you did. :-) Then click the little push button on the new track that says "FX". A popup window volition appear in which you select which effect or plugin you want to employ. Select i and click OK or just double click the one you want, so it will be loaded into your track. Turn on the little triangle shaped button that is for Tape Monitoring, click the rail's circular Record Arm push button (which will turn bright red), and make sure that in the dropdown input field yous have your midi device selected, and which channel you desire. Setting up the midi device itself is more than I want to get into here, so look on Youtube for some very good videos on this. Kenny Gioia's videos are excellent - his Youtube stuff is posted under the name Reaper Mania: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCq2...98HlB5mVFHGSsQ

And then I followed tutorials and got things happening. Kontakt was upwards an running and I was able to lay in some test tracks. I saved the template as in the tutorial. I then added a couple more plugins and got those to work. However, when I tried to employ Kontakt again Reaper could not discover information technology. Opening the template gave me an error. How do I go Reaper to find Kontakt again?

Edit:
Actually, at present I can access any of the instrument plugins.

Equally noted to a higher place, make certain you accept the correct VST path. You lot find that in "Preferences/Plug-ins/VST".

First brand sure the binder you desire Kontakt to exist in actually has the Kontakt dll files. Then get to
preferences and select the path. IF you click on "Add", you can direct Reaper to the folder.

Also, if you lot're non sure how to build your Kontakt outputs in Kontakt, click on my Kontakt tutorial in
my signature, "Create Outputs".

Checking that path I accept
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins;C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins;C:\Program Files\Mutual Files\VST3

I accept non loaded any Steinberg plugins. Is this a default?

Yes, those are default VST plugin paths. If you don't have your plugins installed in that location, just change the path to where your plugins are and rescan.

Also, what are the exact binder paths to your Kontakt plug-ins? (A Search for "Kontakt" should detect them.)
